So, I’m not normally one to whine, but here goes — I’m tired of always having an irritated voice and throat. There. I’ve said it. (Although there’s less pain when typing than speaking.) Some things in life just have to be dealt with.
Late summer. Dog days. August doldrums. State Fair time. Sangrias! While in Trader Joe’s this past week, one of the employees told me about this fruity, tasty blend. I had never tried “to the power of seven” juice, but this gave me a good reason to purchase a bottle.
Tequila has been around for hundreds of years — much longer than Mexico has been an independent country. Although I’ve visited several parts of the country, I have yet to see a worm crawling around in a bottle of tequila, which is totally okay with me!
I am not a fan of heat and humidity. In fact, I basically shut down when the dew point tops 60 degrees. During the “dog days” of summer, it’s all I can do to eat, sleep, and take care of the bare necessities. This is why I don’t live in the tropical South!
A person doesn’t have to be Irish to love Irish coffee. And it doesn’t have to be St. Patrick’s Day to drink Irish coffee. In fact, one of the best cups of Irish coffee I’ve ever had was in Scotland. Another in Park City, Utah. And the other in my small-town Minnesota living room.
We have just experienced a brutal cold snap. While warming up in a charming coffee shop in Stockholm, I tried my first-ever rooibos chai latte. I’ll never be able to re-create that precise beverage, but this is pretty darned close! And I don’t have to wait in line….
Every family has its quirks and weirdness. My family may just have more than our share, but I love them anyway! When serving spiced apple cider, we always call it “Spider”. Mash-up of words? Sure, so why not a mash-up of beverages???
What do the Wimbledon tennis tournament, the Chelsea Flower Show, and the Henley Royal Regatta all have in common – besides being English events, of course? Pimm’s!
The best place to enjoy evening, in my book, is the screened porch. You can feel all the fresh breezes, watch swans on the lake, hear the birds and frogs, and not be bothered by mosquitoes.
My guest chef for the week is Gabby. She is the sparkliest, sweetest, smartest, funnest girl I know. Gabby is also an excellent sous chef. The crowning glory of our dinner was the refreshing orange julius.
